Schizophrenia

Edit I found this quote quite amusing. It's at Religious Tolerance/Atheist
George H.W. Bush, as presidential nominee for the Republican party; 1987-AUG-27: "No, I don't know that Atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered as patriots. This is one nation under God."
/Edit

According to my text book (Psychology Eight edition by David G. Myers), schizophrenia affects 1 in 100 people. That's a ridiculous amount of people...

Symptoms:

  • Delusions

  • Hallucinations

  • Disorganized speech

  • Gross disorganized or catonic behavior

  • Negative symptoms

It has to be noted that schizophrenia is different from Dissociative Identity Disorder, though they are often mixed up. People with DID do not experience hallucination, and regard the "voices" in their head as a different identity of themselves. People with schizophrenia, on the other hand, hear and see things that do not exist, and usually hear "voices," but they do not regard them as "their own."

National Institute of Mental Health: Schizophrenia

I spent the whole night doing my psychology homework, answering 2 AP essay questions from last year. One had to do with schizophrenia (if you haven't realized already). So I looked up everything about schizophrenia. But as much as I love psychology and the way the mind works, and the mental disorders... I realized that not doing these things just because I want to, and the fact that I need to answer questions is quite irritating.

I've already gotten so much homework, including quite a few pages of Spanish as well as 16 pages to read in the psychology textbook (aside from the essays). Differential Equations class at community college last night was alright, I guess. But I'm not too sure if the teacher really knew what he was doing. But it was a class reunion after 4 years. We all took an accelerated GT math class together in 7th and 8th grade (the top 3% of the county?), but if we went to different high schools, we hadn't seen eachother since.

I'm taking a week off cross country in hopes that my knee gets better. But because the stairs in the school are really long, I get pain when I walk down it...

Blah, homework sucks! I may be majoring in psychology in the future. It's pretty interesting, cause I know a lot of people who are mentally ill, including myself. I haven't come upon anyone who is schizo though. Yet. =P

I spent a good chunk of today doing statistics homework, bleghh~ It sucks. I love psychology, too. It's quite interesting. I took Psych12 (From conception to death) last semester and it was a really good class.

I don't think anyone listens to Bush anymore these days. And *shudders* homework is never good, never. Maybe in first grade but thats it. Well I hope you enjoy your classes at least, its more fun when we do. AND I hope your knee gets better!

I believe that's George Bush senior right? I'm not very good with remembering names. Even thinking that atheists aren't citizens is blasphemy. We are just as much people as anyone else.

Oh, you have an all black cat! I'm not a superstitious person, so that doesn't really bug me. I remember on Friday the 13th, one of my neighbors wouldn't come out because there were three black cats lurking in front of his house.

I'm trying to play as much badminton as possible before school starts, just in case I won't be able to play during the school season. It's awesome that you guys have a cross-country team. At my school, we only have a basketball team and a volleyball team. Our high school has a badminton team, so I'm looking forward to that. :)
