Pit Bulls have been under the harsh light of the law for a very long time. Because of their "violent" nature and the fact that there has been "pit bull attacks," they have become epitome of evil.
"Although friendliness and tolerance towards humans are traits of the breed, there are, as in any breed, those that are dangerous toward humans. It is the owner's responsibility to be in total control of his dog(s), and it is the owner who, through intentional mistreatment or neglect, is frequently responsible for pit bull bites. Many attacks by other dog breeds are misclassified as "pit bulls" by media reports." [1]
They are used as tools of entertainment, as many may have heard of the NFL Player who was put on trial for dog fighting. Let's see what some of his teammates have to say about it:
"'I don't know if he was fighting dogs or not,' [Clinton] Portis said. 'But it's his property; it's his dogs. If that's what he wants to do, do it.'
Portis said dog fighting is a 'prevalent' part of life.'" [2]
Ignorant people like this are the people who should be banned from the country. Their ignorance puts many animals (and people) to harm as they begin to feel that they are better than others. This self gratification is dangerous enough to potentially lead to murderers. Anyone who can kill animals and enjoy it is close to killing humans as well. (And personally, I think this person's too stupid to know what "prevalent" means. Someone probably stuffed it in his face. After all, his grammar's pitiful.) Animal Fighting is a gross sport, and people who do it are very very very sick creatures. So pitiful that I feel so bad for them.

I do not understand the sick people who think this is funny and entertaining. (And to those who might be wondering, I am strongly against Bull Fighting as well.)
I find Pit Bull Banning Legistration outrageous.
"When asked why the city is specifically targeting pit bulls and dogs with the appearance and characteristics of that breed, Williams said, 'At this point, these are the dogs that pose an actual problem. When you look at the pattern and the statistics, it's pit bulls doing most of the attacks.'" [3]
"It's people who make dogs mean," he said. "You could make a Chihuahua mean if you try. Pit bulls are nice dogs. I don't like this new law at all."
Theresa Everett of the city's West Side, who's trained and bred dogs for 27 years, said she's trained more than 6,000 dogs, and never had a problem with a pit bull.
"Any dog can be made to be aggressive," she added.
John Kegley Jr. of North Lima, president of the Mahoning-Shenango Kennel Club, which has more than 50 members, says it's a misconception that pit bulls are a dangerous breed.
"It's not the dog, it's the people who are training them or the lack of training or the wrong type of training," he said. "I've dealt with several rescue pit bulls. One had a fighting background, but after the proper training, it was in my lap licking my face." [3]
I do see many barking Chihuahuas. And many other small dogs. But because these dogs are large, and possess more power, they are to be eliminated while those animals aren't. Of course, it is probably easier to control the little ones once they get out of control, but it is a well known fact that you should keep children away from tiny dogs because they pose more risks than larger dogs. (They are "bred" to bark to show off it's "meanness" so that bigger things do not attack them. Larger dogs, on the other side, usually has a more docile nature. Though, not always true. But that's the philosophy I grew up with. And I haven't been bitten by a single dog in the dog-ridden neighborhoods I've lived in for the past 18 years.)
I agree that the law enforcement has "responsibility to protect [the] citizens." [3]. But to do so by an animal holocaust?
If your animal is bad, aka: barks too much, bites, runs away, too big, etc. etc., you can put them down.
It's like saying, "my Bobby here bites other kids. Yells at them. Cusses at them! He's getting to be waaay too big, and hits other people. It's about time we go put him down; for the good of the world and himself too!"
But do we do that? No. Dogs, once put into our care, should remain as a part of the family.
You might be thinking, "Hah. Like she knows anything. She has a Lab for god's sake..." But I do know. Why? Because my labrador retriever had dog aggression. We've had to make the painful decision of whether or not to put her down many, many times. But did we do it? No. Though we do feel bad for the owners and dogs whom had to go through some things because of her, we have decided again and again to keep her and train her to become a better dog. Someone had given her up because of the way she is. I sincerely believe that they made her that way. And because they were sick and tired of her and because she had gotten too big, they threw her away.
It is not always the owner’s fault. And maybe they ARE a dangerous breed. But that does not change the fact that they have a responsibility to take care of the animal they brought into their house.
My dog has gotten much better. And she has not bitten a dog in a very long time.
Most pit bulls go through their whole life without biting a dog or a human. And if they do, most of the time, they do so out of desperation. Any dog will fight back and bite if they are tortured enough or if they are scared enough to do so. They could be scared not only if people do things to them at the moment, but if they have been abused. And knowingly abusing an animal is a crime in this country.
"Banning Pit Bulls would be like banning cars because people get killed in car accidents! Who's responsible, the car or the driver/manufacturer? Any car can be deadly in the wrong hands or if built with defective parts. Same thing with dogs... Any dog. Pit Bulls are no more responsible for the way they are bred, raised and trained, than cars are responsible for the way they are designed, built and driven." [4]
"If you're considering adding a new animal to your family, talk to your shelter's adoption counselors, and do some research on your own. Don't exclude a breed or type of dog just because of something you heard or read. That little blocky-headed dog with the goofy grin may be just the friend that you've been waiting for." [1]
Please consider the fact that no one is "born evil." And that does not change when that "no one" is a dog. These dogs are classified as "dangerous." But most that bit has been done something to them. If they bit children, most likely, they were throwing rocks, pulling on their tails, stepping on them... Doing things they should not have done.

Yeah, it sucks when people just judge a dog by what they've heard. I want a wolf hybrid, but there are lots of controversial arguments of them being extremely lovable and the #1 child killer. But that doesn't stop me from getting one!
I got a pit bull mix and she ALMOST looks just like the one in the picture you posted. Even though she hates me and bit me on the butt once on accident and hates me, shes the best dog our family ever had. Dog fighting makes me so mad. Sick people suck.
Ever since I read your blog, I've wanted to leave my comment at here. But I fear I may not write English very well. Anyway I'll try it, because I was really interested in this subject. I really agree with Hiro.
I met two kind of Pit Bulls in my life. One of it is a friend of mine has. The Pit Bull is named "Laura" --RO-RA-- as a companion animal. One day, it's about 2years ago, a man is Laura's owner came at our house with Laura to take a lesson of a Stained Glass by my husband. At first, when I met Laura I was afraid of her as she have very rugged feature, body and snaky eyes. She seemed to hurt me easily when I've made her anger, and never she is so friendly to me at least.
The lesson was from 9 am to 5pm. It's such a long time but Laura was staying quietly near by him. Sometimes she sigh deeply as cast him an upward glance though. It's so cute! I was convinced she has cleverness, patience and obedience.
After that he offered when she born puppies, we should have got it. He said that the Pit Bull will guard and secure me more than the 'SECOM' of security company. ^^; But I fear we didn't accept it because of we had an elderly cat at that time and we had responsibility to my cat security. I stil beleive Pit Bulls is one of the best dog as a companion animal.
I'm in shock with the pictures of dog fighting. What the hell? Things like this exists? That's disgusting and I agree that people should be banned from countries for things like that. And then they ban dogs because they are violent? Well it's just to show that that is how thier owners have raised them. That's just disgusting I am sorry lol.
I think it's a bit silly to say that all pit bulls are aggressive and should be banned. Isn't it obvious that how the owner treats and teaches the dog has everything to do with how the dog behaves?
I loved this blog entry. I agree with you on all your points, yes pit bulls do get a bad rap. My aunt has a minature pinsher and he's just as vicious as a big dog, he bites and barks at anyone. Yes and dogs aren't born evil, its the owners that do that to them. My aunts dog was abused and neglected and thats why he is how he is today. Its not his fault. I think the dog fighting is disgusting, any animal fighting. I also hear some do chicken fights or whatever. Its just horrible how some humans think they are so superior and do such cruelty to animals.
I too got a pit bull mix
